Mason police officer fabricated story about hit and run accident

Some people thought it was fishy when the Mason District Police announced that an officer was involved in a hit and run accident in Annandale May 12 and asked if anyone had seen it.

They were right. An investigation by Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit has determined that no other vehicle was involved in the accident, the Fairfax County Police Department reported July 12. The crash investigation revealed this was a single-vehicle accident involving just one officer, Carl Joseph Biggs.

Biggs, who has been employed for two years, was charged with hit and run and filing a false police report and has been placed on administrative leave. Once the criminal case has been concluded, the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau will continue its investigation to address alleged violations of departmental regulations and directives.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. on Gallows Road. Biggs claimed an unkown “dark four-door sedan” heading westbound on Masonville Drive ignored a stop sign and plowed into his vehicle, causing it to strike a utility pole. He was not injured.
