Metrobus to resume regular service
Metrobus will return to regular weekday service on Feb. 7, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced.
Metrobus has been operating on a modified Saturday schedule, offering approximately 75 percent of normal weekday service, since Jan. 10 due to Covid-related staffing shortages.
The Covid Omicron surge has affected about 10 percent of Metro’s workforce since the holidays, said outgoing Metro CEO Paul Wiedenfeld. “While Metro is still experiencing above-average absenteeism, case rates are declining and employees are returning to work following their quarantine requirements.”
While Metro works to restore regular service on Metrobus, it will strategically deploy additional buses when possible to help increase capacity on busy lines.
Update: Metro is offering pay incentives of up to $2,500 as part of a new campaign to hire more bus drivers. Bus drivers will receive a $1,000 signing bonus in their first paycheck. A minimum of a commercial driver learner’s permit is required to start in the position.
If candidates don’t have experience driving a bus, Metro will provide training. After completing the 10-week training, drivers will get the remaining $1,500 bonus pay. The starting pay is over $25 an hour.
Will the 28 route return to the Rt 7 Service west towards Tysons? Currently the bus line no longer crosses Rt. 7 after the Hub at 7 Corners.
The shuttle like service is gone from Baileys to West End of Falls Church.
