Movie theatre to open in September in Merrifield

An artist’s rendering of the new theatre.
The eight-screen Angelika Film Center and Café is
slated to open in September at the Mosaic development in Merrifield.
According to Reading International, the company
that operates the Angelika theatre chain, the new cinema “
will
showcase the best in independent,  foreign,
and specialty  film in auditoriums featuring plush stadium-designed seating, wall-to-wall screens, and
the latest in digital projection and sound.”
The
three-level, glass enclosed lobby will have a cafe and lounge, as well as a
concession stand. Lee Anne Wong, a finalist on Bravo’s “Top Chef” and regular
contributor to “Unique Eats” on the Cooking Channel, will create a menu
inspired by her “signature modern-global fusion cuisine
.”
The
lounge will serve drinks and bar snacks. The café will have full meals,
deserts, beer, and wine. Customers can dine in those venues or bring their
meals into the theatre. The concession stand will offer Wong’s “creative twists”
on traditional movie snacks.
This
will be the fourth Angelika movie theatre in the United States. The first one, in
New York City, opened in 1989. The others are in Dallas and Plano, Texas.
