Mural in the works in Annandale
Spiderman and baseball legend Jackie Robinson are making an appearance in a mural being painted on the side of the Annandale Shopping Center.
Collector’s World, a tenant in the shopping center at 7006 Columbia Pike, commissioned the mural.
When finished, itl will feature Spiderman scaling wall facing Gallows Road, Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers sliding into home plate, and a large “Collector’s World” sign.
The shop sells sports cards, sports memorabilia, comic books, and related items. It also offers authentication services and custom framing.
The mural is being painted by Sandra Payne and Tim Knepp. They’ve worked as a team and individually on murals, decorative finishes, and commissioned art. Their previous projects include the interior of the panda house at the National Zoo, murals at the Niesha Thai and Thaiphoon restaurants, artworks for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and much more.
Terrific! So glad to see this!
With a few more murals Annandale could become quite the destination!
I have watch it being painted over the past week, and it looks great! We need more. Murals in other cities have taken off and add character to an area. Great work!
Very nice!
We allow murals of Spiderman but not graffiti. So lame.
Some graffiti is worthy of the space too. But when people just randomly painting crap No it not what our neighborhood wants to see. People love art we want see those bold and beautiful colors it makes us smile
I would like to see a mural of the redskins football player sean taylor and kobe Bryant and more super heros on the wall
I met the artists at the mural site while they were painting. My passion is art also, and I was completely impressed not only by the high quality of art, but also the quality of human beings that they were. I felt privileged to meet them.
Thank you Norman, it was a pleasure meeting you and seeing some of your art. A talents worth is only valued if it’s shared.
Tim Knepp and Sandra Payne are extraordinary artists. They have done terrific decorative finishes at my home including amazing Trompe L’oeil paintings.
They are wonderful people who are a pleasure to work with.
It heartens us to hear how much having art in the community means to the residents of Annandale. Shout out to artist Todd Crespi for designing this project.
