Native seedling sale starts this week
American Beautyberry |
Orders open Feb. 2 for the 2021 native seedling sale hosted by the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District.
Seedlings can be picked up April 16, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and April 17, 9 a.m.-noon at the Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet Club, 3516 Sleepy Hollow Road, Falls Church.
Ordering early is recommended as the seedlings sold out last year within a week.
Two packages are available. Each one is $17 and contains eight seedlings.
The Super Shrub and Tiny Tree package includes two Silky Dogwood, two Common Buttonbush, two American Hazelnut, and two Eastern Redbud seedlings.
The Space Savers and Bountiful Berries package includes two New Jersey Tea, two Northern Spicebush, two Aromatic Sumac, and two American Beautyberry seedlings.
The seedlings are first and second-year bare-root trees and shrubs. Each package is about 1 to 3 feet long.
All the shrubs and small trees are hardy in small spaces, bear gorgeous flowers and fruits, and display beautiful colors. These plants provide habitats for wildlife and food for birds and pollinators; help clean the water and air; and prevent soil erosion.
Any seedlings not collected at pickup will be donated to a reforestation project in Fairfax County. No refunds will be offered. No in-person sales will be available.
Sold out of seedlings already???

The sale isn't over. It just started. As the article states, the seedlings sold out quickly last year.
