Native seedling sale under way

Using native plants in your landscaping protects water and air quality, helps attract wildlife, conserve energy, reduces carbon emissions, and can even help you save time and money. Native plants use less water and are more resistant to damage and disease than imported plants and protect water quality through better drainage.

The Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District makes it easy to include more native plants in your yard through its annual seedling sale.

Two packages of seedlings native to Northern Virginia are available:

The shrub and small tree package ($16.95) and includes two each of the following species: Winterberry, Buttonbush, Serviceberry, Indigobush, and Elderberry.

The tree package ($11.95) is ideal for common areas or larger suburban yards and includes two each of the following: Black Gum, Persimmon, and American Plum.

Payment can be made by cash, check, or money order to the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District. Prepayment is required. For an order form, visit the NVSWCD website or contact the agency by email or call 703-324-1460.

Orders must be postmarked by April 28. The seedlings will be available for pick up on May 2 or 3 at an Annandale location. The exact location will be proved with receipt.
