Neighborhood socials set for Aug. 7 for National Night Out

First responders meet neighbors at a National Night Out event in Annandale.

Community social events are scheduled all over Fairfax County on Tuesday evening, Aug. 7, for National Night Out.

Police and firefighters will be making the rounds at potlucks, barbecues, and ice cream socials hosted by community organizations, HOAs, and other local groups to promote neighborhood camaraderie and a positive relationship between residents and law enforcement. The idea behind NNO is that communities are safer when neighbors know one another.

The Fairfax County Police Department put together a map of NNO events, including 31 within the Mason Police District.

Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, a resident of Camelot, is expected to be at the Camelot community’s NNO potluck dinner at Excalibur Court, Annandale, at 6:30 p.m.

The Annandale Shopping Center, on Columbia Pike, is having an NNO celebration, 6-9 p.m., with children’s activities, raffles, and refreshments. The Parliaments are hosting an outdoor movie on Eastmoreland Road on NNO, and Sleepy Hollow Methodist Church (3455 Sleepy Hollow Road) is having an ice cream social.

The Bailey’s Crossroads Homeless Shelter (3525 Moncure Ave.) invites the community to an NNO event sponsored by the shelter’s advisory council, the Fairfax County Office to Prevent and End Homelessness, and New Hope Housing with food, games, and music.

Some of the other organizations hosting NNO events in Mason District include the Bailey’s Community Center, Bel Air Civic Association, Glen Forest community, Lafayette Village, Lake Barcroft, Mantua Citizens’ Association, Parklawn, Pine Ridge, Ridgelea Hills, Rosedale Manor, Skyline Plaza, Sleepy Hollow, and the Lincolnia Senior Center.
