New addition at Justice means less crowded hallways

A new classroom at Justice High School.

Justice High School is a lot less crowded now that a new classroom wing has been completed.

The new three-story wing – finished just in time for the start of the 2024-25 school year – has classrooms for world languages, English, science, social studies, and career and technical education. There’s also a classroom for students in the AVID program and a testing room.

The project included an expanded cafeteria. An outdoor classroom under construction in the courtyard will be used for whatever teachers want to do outdoors, said the school’s new principal Sean Rolon.

Having additional classrooms is making it easier to keep the halls clear during class transitions, he says.

Rolon was formerly an assistant principal at Falls Church High School, which has also been going through a major renovation.

His priorities for Justice include “increased communications with all our stakeholders, solving problems in a restorative way, and giving students a voice.”

A new procedure at Justice calls for students to deposit their phones in pouches – they’re using old calculus holders – in class during instruction time. That has led to “significant improvements in engagement in class,” he says.

“We have a dedicated staff, great students, and a community that wants the best for our kids,” Rolon says.
