New commander named for Mason Police District

Capt. Shawn Adcock has been named the commander of the Mason Police District, succeeding Capt. Brooke Wright. He starts the new position on Feb. 13.
Wright, who has led the station since April 2018, is moving on to a new position, not yet announced, at the Fairfax County Police Department headquarters.
Adcock, a native of Alexandria, is the third generation in his family with a law enforcement career. He started as a police officer with the City of Alexandria 15 years ago.
Adcock joined FCPD in 2008, where he held various investigative and operational assignments, including neighborhood patrol unit and assistant commander of the Mount Vernon station. He also worked in the police liaison command, school liaison command, and as a duty officer in other stations.
He graduated from Mount Vernon High School and completed his undergraduate studies at George Mason University.

Meanwhile, Fairfax County is undergoing a nationwide search for a new police chief to replace Edwin Roessler Jr., who retired at the end of January after serving as chief since 2013.
The board appointed former FCPD Chief David Rohrer to head the department until a new chief is named. Rohrer was appointed deputy county executive overseeing public safety in 2012.
