New community center under construction at the Parliaments in Annandale

Residents of the Parliaments are getting a new, much larger community room and fitness center as part of a renovation of the complex’ leasing and resident services offices. The rental community has 750 units in the heart of Annandale operated by Southern Management.
Property Manager Karen Geier-Smith expects the new center to be complete in about six to eight months. The project includes renovation of the pool bathhouse, so the pool won’t be open until the construction is finished.
The new center will provide a place for residents to relax with coffer, have access to Wi-Fi, and participate in meetings, social activities, and children’s programs. The new fitness center—free to Parliaments residents—will have weight and cardio machines.
The former community center had been gradually taken over by offices, says Geier-Smith. Some of the children’s programs provided by management, such as the free summer lunch program, a recent spelling bee, and an upcoming fair housing poster contest, have been moved to the lobby of the Parliaments’ high rise building. The leasing and resident services offices have been temporarily relocated to vacant apartments across the street.
