New lane on I-395 opens June 12

Smooth sailing on I-395 southbound. (VDOT)

A new, fourth travel lane is scheduled to open on or about this Friday, June 12, on Interstate 395 southbound between Duke Street and Edsall Road, the Virginia Department of Transportation reports.

The new travel lane will provide additional capacity in a busy stretch of I-395. It is part of the I-395 eight-mile Express Lanes project connecting the Interstate 95 Express Lanes to Washington, D.C., which opened in November 2019. The I-395 Express Lanes are a public-private partnership between VDOT and Transurban.
In preparation for the opening of the new lane, motorists are asked to slow down, remain alert, and watch for construction crews in the area.
