New principal named for Jackson Middle School
Michael Magliola has been appointed principal of Luther Jackson Middle School in Falls Church, succeeding Acting Principal Rohini Tohan.
Magliola’s official start date is July 10. Parents and staff are invited to a meet-and-greet with Magliola in the cafeteria today at 2:30 p.m.
Magliola has been an assistant principal at the Winston Churchill International Baccalaureate Middle School in the San Juan Unified School District in California since 2016.
He has also been an extended school year principal and has been a resource specialist teacher, co-teacher, and coach in both the San Juan and Palo Alto school districts, where he focused on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and special education.
An educator since 2004, “Magliola has a wealth of experience in getting academic results in schools with high levels of poverty; therefore, raising the academic bar for all students,” states a news release from Fairfax County Public Schools’ Region 2 Assistant Superintendent Fabio Zuluaga,
“He believes strongly in transparency, effective communication, and building partnerships with the community he serves, He understands the importance of building consensus across multiple levels in order to achieve school-wide and district-wide goals,” Zuluaga states. “Mr. Magliola’s excellent communication skills and inclusive approach will be assets to the Jackson community.”
Magliola has a bachelor of science degree in business administration and a master’s degree in education from California State University, Sacramento.
I hate the title being Jackson Middle School instead of the real name of the school Luther Jackson – it is demeaning to the name and legacy to which the school was named.
I agree. I hate that the School Board decides on its own what and how to name our schools. Why bother with public input and creating regulations if they are going to exactly as they please anyway.
Well, it does say the full name in the very first sentence. Not sure why "Concerned" is claiming the SB decided to name it differently.
Why does Jackson MS have so much behavior and crime? The students there seem to get in a lot of trouble. The staff is very busy having to constantly redirect them. Another thing – the school looks like a prison with the gates all over.
