New utility poles installed in Annandale
Dominion Virginia Power is replacing approximately 34 aging utility poles in the Broyhill Crest community in Annandale. Many of the old poles are cracked and could fall down at any time, said one of the linemen, who came from Alabama to work on the project.
The initial work should be completed in approximately three to four months, said Dominion spokesperson Le-Ha Anderson. But then once the new poles are in place and electric wires are transferred, the cable TV and Verizon wires need to be taken off the old poles before the poles are removed, so the whole project might not be finished until the end of the year, she said. Utility poles last about 40 years.
