New Westlawn Shopping Center to open on Annandale Road in 2014

The old, run-down Westlawn Shopping Center on Annandale Road
by Arlington Boulevard is gone, but the new retail center isn’t expected to be
completely finished until sometime in 2014.
The site plan should be approved by Fairfax County within
the next 60 to 90 days, says Shane Murphy, an attorney with Cooley LLP of
Reston, which represents Bill Page Honda. Bill Page owns the site and is
developing the retail project, as well
as expanding the adjacent car dealership on Route 50.
The only former tenant that will reopen in the new Westlawn
Shopping Center will be BB&T Bank, which will have a stand-alone building
facing Annandale Road on the far left of the property. There will be a new
access point in front of the bank.

The post office won’t be coming back, says Brian Kanyan, chief financial officer of Bill Page Imports Inc. He had hoped to
retain it, but the U.S. Postal Service is facing a multi-billion dollar deficit and closing
many facilities around the country. The thrift store, Joseph’s Coat, moved to central Annandale
last spring.

A free-standing drug store with a drive-through pharmacy
will be on the corner of Route 50 and Annandale Road. A tenant hasn’t been
nailed down yet, but it is likely to be Walgreen’s, CVS, or Rite Aid. Bill Page
is negotiating for tenants for the remaining 20,000 square feet of retail space
but nothing has been finalized yet, Kanyan says.
The new Honda dealership will have a larger showroom, more
service bays, and a parking deck. The agreement with Honda requires the
dealership to remain open, so the old building won’t be torn down until a
portion of the new building is up.
Bill Page does not plan to install a fence between the back
of the shopping center and the Westlawn neighborhood, but Murphy says the trash
and underbrush along Tripp’s Run back there will be cleaned up.

  1. Agreed don't need another pharmacy how about a resturant at least you would have something else to do while waiting for you car.

  2. pharmacy swarmacy!
    bested by banks!
Love the TJ's idea and a sit down restaurant; please no more Thai, Italian, or Korean or PIZZA

  3. OMG, please no more banks or drugstores! A Sweetfrog just opened in Loehmanns Plaza quite close to this site so that won't happen. A TJ would be awesome but not gonna happen either…heard they are extremely cautious about opening new stores.
