Nightspot opens in Annandale

This building, formerly a Bank of America branch, has been vacant for a long time.

1943 Classic, a Korean fusion bar and restaurant at 7220 Columbia Pike in Annandale, is having a soft opening.

The vibe is dark and classy, with a low-hanging chandelier at the entrance.

1943 Classic is a popular nightspot in Korea, where the franchise has dozens of locations.

The bar specializes in soju, beer, and cocktails. There is a tablet at each table for ordering.

The menu includes such items as shrimp fondu, spicy cheese kimchi fried rice, spicy kimchee pancake, squid soup, and spicy jjolmyson (chewy noodles) with pork belly.

Soft opening hours are 4 p.m.-11 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, 3 p.m.-2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and noon-10 p.m. on Sunday. It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

    1. So you still not know that Annandale is the DC area’s original Koreatown? You had over 40 years to realize it, Linda.

    2. Korean is fine. I’ll take anything as long as it’s not another KBBQ or a fried chicken joint.

  1. It is yet ANOTHER indication of why we are so lucky to live in Annandale. It’s a hotspot for so many superb restaurants that do not open in places near any of the suburban Virginia Metro stops. Had we been served by Metrorail, none of these unique restaurants would be here, and we would never be able to afford a house in such a wonderful community that is a living celebration of our country’s unique ability to successfully integrate people from every place in the world. Have you seen what’s been made of the depressing KMart? Thank our Korean immigrants for ALL you have done to improve our lives. There are so many attributes of the Koran culture that are so admirable, especially their hearty embrace of excellence. Our recent immigrants are what keeps this country vibrant and exciting.

    1. I concur RAMco. We feel lucky to live here in the heart of Annandale with its diversity and rich culture. Koreatown restaurants are a bonus! If you get a chance check out Virginialicious Korean Food Tour.

  2. Today I drove by 1943 on my way home just around the corner. It looked inviting so I made a mental note to look it up. Now that I’ve read about it I am looking forward to visiting it soon. I’ve lived in Annandale 13 years and love the fact that we have so many restaurants within walking distance from home. I brag about it all the time.
