No school, trash pickups tomorrow
Fairfax County public schools are closed on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and all school activities are canceled. Fairfax County courts will also be closed on Tuesday.
More snow is predicted tonight, with accumulations of 1 to 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service, along with a low temperature of 18 degrees and winds up to 14 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.
County trash and recycling service is suspended for Tuesday. When collections resume, they will operate on a sliding schedule, with service scheduled for Monday, Jan. 6, postponed to Wednesday, Jan. 8.
VDOT warns residents to “be prepared for a multi-day response to this storm.” VDOT’s top priority is interstates, followed by primary roads, high-volume secondary roads, and finally residential streets.
Road conditions are dangerous, so VDOT urges people to avoid driving unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Fairfax Connector is expected to operate on a regular schedule on Tuesday, although bus riders should expect delays.
Fairfax County offices will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. If employees can’t make it to the office, they can telework or take unscheduled annual or personal leave or unpaid leave.
