Nominations sought for award honoring Annandale HS student volunteers
Do you know a senior at Annandale High School who’s making a difference in the community through volunteer service?
The Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA) is seeking nominations for its Making a Difference Award. The winning student will be recognized at Annandale High School’s 2014 Awards Day and will be given a cash prize of $500 and a plaque. The award-winner’s name will also be inscribed on a plaque displayed at the school.
The purpose of the award is to recognize the importance of volunteering and to encourage young people to do more volunteering as a way to give back to their community. The award is made possible through the generosity of Jina Kim of the Evergreen Title Co. in Annandale.
To be eligible, a student must be nominated by someone familiar with his or her service who is not an immediate family member. Nominations are due April 15. For information on nominating a student, contact Ann Marie Hicks, [email protected].
Nominees will asked to submit an essay describing why they think volunteering is important, what they have done, and the impact they have had.
ACCA is an alliance of 26 local churches that provides day care, food, rental assistance, furniture, and other services to low-income families in the Annandale/Bailey’s Crossroads area, regardless of religion, race, or ethnic background.
