Obama voters crucial for Democratic victory in mid-term election
Webb and Connolly |
Democratic leaders and party members turned out in full force Saturday evening for the Mason District Crab Feast, an annual backyard fundraising event featuring barrels full of blue crabs. Party leaders sought to energize Fairfax County Democratic activists to work hard to get out the vote in November. Both Reps. Gerry Connolly (11th District, which includes Annandale) and Rep. Jim Moran (8th District) are up for re-election. The event was organized by Mason District Democrats under the leadership of chair Rachel Rifkind.
The mid-term elections could be challenging for Democratic candidates, so turnout is crucial. “We need to turn out the same people who voted for Obama two years ago,” Connolly says.
“We know people are angry. They want leadership,” Sen. Jim Webb told the audience. “We need to demonstrate that leadership comes from the Democratic party.”
“The failed policies of the Bush Administration led to the economic crash in 2008, which President Obama inherited,” Webb says. “We have tried to repair the economic system of the country. We’ve been met with obstructionism [from the Republicans] at every step.”
“The Republicans gave this country the worst president in American history,” added Moran. Noting that Obama is restoring the economy and the nation’s reputation abroad, Moran says, if Obama is to succeed, “we have to be just as committed to his agenda as he is.” It’s crucial to keep the Democratic majority in Congress, he says. “Complacency is our real enemy. . . . We need to get out and knock on doors and maximize the turnout.”
Among the Democratic leaders in attendance were Sen. Majority Leader Richard Saslaw (35th District, which includes Annandale), Del. Kaye Kory (38th District, representing Annandale), Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple (38th), House of Delegates Minority Leader Ward Armstrong (10th), Del. Vivian Watts (39th), Del. Mark Sickles (43rd), Mason Supervisor Penny Gross, Board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bulova, former board of supervisors chair Kate Hanley, school board members Sandy Evans (Mason District) and Ilryong Moon (at-large), and Terry McAuliffe, former chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Rat fest 2010. Connolly and Moran, our prayer's have been unanswered for years to rid us of the anti-Semite Moran, and now the American hater Connolly, the man has been more concerned about the citizens of other countries than of his own legal constituents for a good portion of 2 decades. He is single handedly responsible for the mess in Annandale, the shocking birth rate of the illegal population, and the resulting gang members that prey on our children, make us live in fear. Then this Connolly has the nerve to get the Nebraska back room fleecing of America extended to Government unions during the health care ram rod, sorry debate.
Send Connolly and his big government, illegal immigrant pandering self packing, and take out the carpet bagger Moran with the trash.
“Two years ago, the Republicans gave this country the worst president in American history,” added Moran.
I am hoping this is a misquote but since it is Moran, he probably said it. Of course written as is, I agree 100% – two years ago too many Rs voted for Obama.

Really? Isn't there some unwritten rule saying that reusing the "blame the last guy" strategy from the campaign 2 years ago is forbidden? The D's have a supermajority for the last two years, they had effective control of congress since 2006 and have passed pretty much everthing they could have reasonably hoped for (and if they were willing to slightly compromise on anything, could have passed even more). I don't believe that i have heard that low taxes were the reason for the recession (part of our debt problems perhaps but not the recession). The housing bubble, which caused the recession, was due in large part to the D's philosophy of artificially creating the ability for people who couldn't afford houses to buy houses. Since the recession, the Ds solutions have consisted of sending us even further into unfathomable debt that my kid's kid's kid's kid's will have trouble paying off. If curbing that is 'obstructionism', call me an obstructionist.

I was under the impression that the School Board was not politcal party-affiliated.
Wow – you live in fear in Connolly' district – wealthy Fairfax county?
– you better remain a recluse because the rest of the world is a much harsher place. Sounds like you need a little mental help which Connolly and Obama-care may help you with.
