Orange Line Metro stations to close June 3-25 for track replacement
Metrorail stations on the Orange Line between Vienna and Ballston will be closed June 3-25 while workers replace the original 40-year-old steel rails.
The Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church, and East Falls Church stations will be closed. Metro will provide free shuttle bus service during the station closures.
According to Metro, “Replacing the track in this section is a top priority to ensure safety and increase reliability.” At the same time, fiber-optic cables will be installed to modernize communications and allow for more efficient maintenance.
Shuttle service between those stations and the Ballston-MU station will operate every five minutes during rush hours (6-9 a.m. and 3-7 p.m.) and every 10 minutes all other times, including weekends.
An Orange Line Express shuttle will run between the Vienna and Rosslyn stations. There will be no rail service on the Silver Line between McLean and Ballston. A Silver Line Limited-Stop shuttle will run between Washington Dulles International Airport, McLean, and Rosslyn.
“Crews will work 24/7 to complete this project as quickly as possible so we can get back to normal service,” said Metro Chief of Infrastructure Andy Off.
Customers will continue to have normal or near-normal service outside of the work zones, with frequent service on the busiest parts of the system in the downtown core area.
