Ossian Hall Park in Annandale will become Fairfax County’s
first park with a “tobacco-free play zone.” A ceremony marking the unveiling of
a sign announcing the voluntary smoke-free policy will take place at the park Sept. 27, 1 p.m.
The Fairfax County Park Authority Board approved a policy in
May calling for smoke-free zones in parks. Fairfax County Public Schools
and the Athletic Council support the concept. Dozens of signs announcing the policy, stating “Tobacco-Free Play Zone. Thank you for your voluntary cooperation,” will be placed at
playgrounds, skate parks, and athletic fields in the coming weeks.
