Panel will recommend Annandale revitalization strategies

What are some short to medium-term fixes that can revitalize Annandale’s downtown core? A panel of urban design experts will meet July 20-21 to study the community and offer their recommendations.
The group is convened by the Washington chapter of the Urban Land Institute. The panel will conduct an abbreviated version of the ULI’s Technical Assistance Panel (a “mini-TAP”) and will present the results to the Fairfax County Office of Community Revitalization (OCR).
The public is invited to the panel’s presentation on July 21, 5 p.m., at the Mason government center, 6507 Columbia Pike.
To prepare for the TAP, the OCR has posted an online survey to solicit feedback from the community on their assessment of Annandale and suggestions for improvement. The survey closes on Tuesday, July 12.
The TAP will focus on the area along Columbia Pike. It is expected to cover such issues as design elements, the best mix of businesses, existing assets to build on, temporary improvements, economic vitality, promotional and educational strategies, and specific sites with the most potential for redevelopment.
The TAP is “a tremendous opportunity to get a fresh perspective on the Annandale Commercial Revitalization District by having a mix of industry professionals apply their expertise and creativity to Annandale and generate ideas for its future enhancement,” says Laura Baker of the OCR. “The strategies that are proposed by the panel could be permanent, temporary/pop-up, seasonal, or interim ideas.”

I prefer not to prejudge the panel's work; and I am glad to see people care enough to try to make a difference in Annandale's future.

Blow it up and start all over again. No good mass transit means Annandale will remain the anus of Fairfax stuck in the middle of a thriving Arlington and depressed fringe beltway suburban communities.

The survey is closed now; does anyone know if we'll have a chance to give our input again, or were they just throwing us a bone?
I am determined to give the panel my suggestions, but I'd prefer to do it through appropriate channels.

Does Annandale look like a place where the people's interests are of any importance? Just another excuse to 'urbanize' a once stable community into a financial opportunity, brought to you by the Big Business Party through its Democrat and Republican subsidiaries. They had the survey results before they announced the survey. Beware of strangers bearing gifts. Where does ULI get its funding? It wouldn't be the first time the Office of Community Revitalization is selling us out to strangers.
