Pedestrian fatality in Seven Corners

A woman crossing Leesburg Pike near Row Street in Seven Corners was struck by a car at about 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 16, the Mason Police District reports.

The pedestrian, Irma Taracena, 61, of Munson Hill Road in Falls Church, was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Taracena was struck by a 1997 Camry driven by Sukhwinder Singh Jhuj, 67, of Manassas Park. Jhuj did not initially stop at the scene but was quickly located by police officers at Patrick Henry Drive as he was in the process of driving back to the crash scene. He was charged with failure to render aid.

Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash, which occurred in a dimly lit area outside of a crosswalk.

In another recent crime, the West Springfield Police District reports a burglary in the 7700 block of Killebrew Drive, Annandale, on Oct. 16. The victim was home asleep but woke up when he heard a sound. The victim observed a man in the house, and the suspect fled on foot.

Police located two men in possession of property that belonged to the victim. Police arrested Saidu Fofanah, 20, and Alexander Ghirmay, 19, of Annandale, and charged them with burglary and grand larceny.

  1. Inadequate or no sidewalks, no way finding, bad intersections, filthy roadways, overgrown weed gutters, no bikeways….no safety for pedestrians, no traffic calming, more traffic. Its a VDOT palace and a pedestrian's hell.

  2. Actually the county just put a sidewalk right there. Not sure what happened with the fatality, but it is safer now
