Pedestrian robbed in Annandale
A man was robbed Nov. 15 while walking along the 7500 block of Little River Turnpike near Medford Drive in Annandale, the Fairfax County Police Department reports. Two men approached him at about 5:52 p.m. and asked for money. The victim pulled out his wallet. One of the suspects grabbed it and pushed the victim. He was not injured. Both suspects fled.
They were described as Hispanic, 18-20 years old. One was wearing a white shirt, black pants, and a black hat. The other suspect was wearing a red shirt, a white hat, and dark pants. Got information about these guys? Call the police, 703-691-2131.
Build a wall, return to sender, lock the door and throw away the key.
Please, shut up with the "return to sender" cliche already! It's beyond old. If I want to read such infantile blabber, I can go to Yahoo.
This blog is just that–a blog. It neither needs nor deserves trolls.
I agree we need a wall. This is a sad state for the Mason District when every time I turn around I hear about another robbery of a person walking down the street. When will this community wake up and stop voting Democrat/ Incumbent. We have another four years of dealing with anything goes. I for one am tired of it. I was generally shocked that Mollie did not win based on Penny's policies alone.
Why are you shocked? Mollie had some obvious liabilities as a candidate, including the presence of former Rep. Tom Davis as her leading contributor. Besides that, her endorsement by the Fairfax GOP was enough to confirm for a lot of voters that she was a de facto Republican. I did some campaigning for her and quickly discovered that party affiliation was enough to sink her candidacy. Many of the people I spoke with didn't have the foggiest idea what was happening with the Seven Corners project, the school board or anything else of significance around Mason. They just snatched up those Democratic sample ballots at the polls and filled in the appropriate circles on their ballots. I'm still flabbergasted and delighted that Ted Velkoff was defeated for school board despite his Democratic endorsement.
I suppose that blindly voting according to party label works for some voters. As Kaye Kory demonstrated, the only way to defeat a Democratic incumbent in Mason is in a primary. So, once Penny dispatched JSwan, she was safe in assuming she'd be reelected. Federal employees in Mason certainly have little incentive to vote for congressional Republican candidates. However, that's a huge mistake in local elections where party affiliation means little. It's all about proficiency in managing local infrastructure and social programs. Penny clearly lacks that sort of sophistication. The truly sad part is that too many of those who blindly supported will remain oblivious to the looming disaster that's coming. Mason is in store for major changes in the next four years and Penny clearly isn't up to the challenge.
Having Tom Davis as her leading contributor? You are on crack. That was a great asset.
In all honesty, Mollie was a lazy candidate. She did not do the hard work of raising money or knocking doors. She had many volunteers who did hard work for her, but she did not pull her end from those I talked to that worked on her campaign.
Penny, while not to popular on blogs like this, knocked thousands of doors and raised the funds to run a robust campaign.
While Penny did indeed take money from developers, she also did the hard work that Mollie was too lazy to do. If Mollie had worked a little harder it may have been closer. Penny really impressed me with how hard she campaigned and how little she took for granted.
I personally had my door knocked by Penny herself both in the Primary (I voted for Swanson, my husband for Penny) as well as the General (we both voted for Penny).
I was very impressed with Penny's work ethic, and never once met Mollie throughout the whole year.
Local elections are about elbow grease and door knocks, Penny just worked a lot harder than Mollie. Maybe Mollie will learn from Penny's example and work harder if she decided to try again.
Are you serious or just trying to take punches. Mollie worked very hard and knocked on many doors.
Anonymous11/18/15, 1:38 PM is a great example of how very misinformed the voters of Mason District are about what happened in the campaign. She didn't see Mollie at her door because Mollie was way too busy elsewhere to be knocking on the door of a die-hard Penny supporter.
The candidates cannot possibly knock on the 43,000 doors in Mason. They work from lists of voters likely to support them so you would expect to see Penny and not Mollie. Laziness has nothing to do with it and certainly nothing to do with Mollie. Penny has paid door knockers and as much money as she needs to hire them. She only knocks on doors likely to yield the big checks. Mollie, not having been in office 20 years, had only a few volunteers but she tirelessly produced results far beyond what anyone thought possible the 20 year incumbent.
The turnout she elicited without Penny’s hundreds of thousands of dollars of special interest payola was by any measure, simply remarkable. Also remarkable is Penny's contempt for facts. The constant repetition of lies, character assassinations and Mollie's refusal to go negative proved overwhelming on a $40,000 budget.
Nov 3rd was a very sad day for Mason District. Corruption is the problem and Mollie was the last answer to it we are ever likely to get unless the voters of Mason start paying attention to their local politics. Think about what has happened to the schools then think about the vast array of excuses we have heard from the incumbent over the past 20 years. The proof is in the pudding and this pudding is rotten.
The big problem here is not just that the voters in Fairfax County aren't well informed and engaged; it is that the vast majority don't show up to vote. Penny won with the support of less than 1/5 of registered voters. Perhaps Penny’s win is our fault for not asking Mollie to step down earlier as chair of the Mason District Council to run for Supervisor. Once Mollie agreed to run, her support went from 0 to 42% in just five months. At that rate, if we had asked her to run a month earlier, she would have won. Clearly the precincts that Mollie won were where the better informed and more engaged neighborhoods. Penny did well in the others. With a little more time and a better understanding of the depravity of Mason politics, Mollie could have reached enough of the other districts before the election and raised their expectations as well, in which case all of Mason’s residents would now be looking at a much brighter future.
I actually love my Hispanic neighbors and love the availability of authentic food. Papusa's, chicharones, Taco's, Burrito's, saltenas, plantains…..
I also have no problems with Hispanics at all?
No one is saying they have a problem with Hispanics but I do not open my doors and let random people in. I want to know who is coming in to my house. I am tired of people making it out that you are against Hispanics.
This isn't a cultural issue. Its a governance and law enforcement issue and Supervisor Gross is ignoring both.
Added to that, Chairman Bulova declared FFX County a sanctuary county back in 2010 and Gross made Mason District a sanctuary to support Bulova.
Is there a way to remove these two from office? They are doing in the county and Mason District.
Umm, yeah, they are called elections. We just had one. And both Bulova and Gross won handily. So…thanks for stopping by!
Or a RECALL.
Oh yes, a recall would be such a wise use of taxpayer dollars, especially since the election was held just two weeks ago. Let's spend tax dollars on a recall election for two public officials who were just re-elected by a majority vote. That just makes an enormous amount of sense….
Do you really want to go there with the unwise use of taxpayer dollars? Where shall we begin?
New construction of extravagant county buildings, bank bailouts, questionable use of EDA bonds, trolly folly….
Annandale seems to have become a sanctuary city. Let's work to improve the quality of life in Annandale instead of bank robberies, child molestation, stabbings, killings, sex trafficking, and homelessness. I just summed up the problems facing Annandale that did not exist years ago.
Since the Koreans now own Annandale are they involved in cleaning this mess up? Don't think so. I open carry so no one will bother me
People don't want to associate with a cool guy like you? I'm shocked!
