Pet shop coming to Barcroft Plaza

Chico’s Pet Depot is coming to the Barcroft Plaza shopping center on Columbia Pike. The shop could open as early as September, says Joseph Thorne of the Pet Depot company, although it looks like a lot of work still needs to be done.

The shop will sell pet food, treats, pet supplies, and small animals, such as fish, rabbits, hamsters, and reptiles. It will also offer dog and cat grooming and will have a cat adoption center, Thorne says.
Pet Depot shops are independently owned franchises. This will be the first one in Virginia and the first in the D.C. metropolitan area. There are 30 Pet Depot stores in the United States and Canada and four Pet Depot veterinary centers. Each of the stores has a name, like Katie’s Pet Depot or Kirby’s Pet Depot. So who’s Chico? It’s the store owner’s cat.
