Pet Valu is closing due to the challenges of COVID

The Pet Valu store at Graham Park Plaza on Arlington Boulevard is closing. The company announced on Nov. 4 that it is beginning “a wind down of its operations due to severe impact from COVID-19.”

Graham Park Plaza, formerly known as Loehmann’s Plaza, is in the Falls Church area of Mason District.

Everything in the stores is up to 20 percent off original prices, according to the Pet Valu website.

The company is shuttering all of its 358 stores in the Northeastern and Midwestern, as well as its corporate office in Wayne, Pa., by the end of the wind-down process. Store closings will begin in a matter of days.

Customers can continue to shop in person and use Pet Valu gift cards and loyalty rewards, but can no longer place orders online.

Pet Valu stores “have been significantly impacted by the protracted COVID-19-related restrictions,” said Jamie Gould, the company’s chief restructuring officer. “After a thorough review of all available alternatives, we made the difficult but necessary decision to commence this orderly wind down.”

  1. Sad to see them leave,
Anyone want to bet what will replace them?

    A. Hot Pot restaurant
    B. Korean BBQ
    c. Thrift store

  2. Why not all of the above? It will be a thrift store with a mini-food court serving hot pot and Korean BBQ. If there's enough space, maybe add a pupusa place too. Because you know, we don't have nearly enough of these as things stand now.

    1. I vote for another nail supply store.
Counting stores across the country – this can really turn Annandale and West Falls Church to the Nail supplies capital of the country.

  3. With so many businesses going under due to the COVID crisis, this spot is likely to be vacant for a long time. It would be great if someone opened a nail salon or a tea shop.
