Pinecrest Golf Course gets an upgrade

The Pinecrest Golf Course is getting an upgrade. A renovation of the indoor practice facility on the lower level is expected to be completed by the end of summer.

State-of-the-art amenities include expanded hitting bays, an instructional bay with electronic swing analysis, and a golf simulator that gives you the option to practice and play realistic golf, anytime, regardless of weather.

The Pinecrest Golf Course, east of Annandale, at 6600 Little River Turnpike, is operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority.

The renovations will include enhanced instructional opportunities through the Pinecrest Golf Academy, as well as a dedicated dining space that can be rented for parties. The updated facility will also include improved lighting and more natural light via skylights and windows.

“This is the first major upgrade at Pinecrest since it opened in 1986,” said Pinecrest General Manager Sarah Oberther. “Once complete, the project will give Fairfax County residents expanded opportunities to learn and practice golf.”

A $25,000 donation from Wayne and Angela Valis helped the Park Authority purchase a state-of-the-art golf simulator. Other funding for renovations come from a 2008 park bond, grants, and private donations.

Daily green fees at the nine-hole golf course with a golf cart are $33 on weekends and $29 on weekdays. The fee for walking the course is $23 on weekends and $19 on weekdays. Five, 10, and 15-round passes are available, too.

The course can be used for FootGolf on Saturdays after 1:30 p.m. FootGolf is a relatively new sport played on golf courses with a soccer ball. Pinecrest is the only golf course in Fairfax County certified by the American FootGolf League.
