It’s a bull market for Pinecrest School, a progressive, private preK-6 school in Annandale. The Virginia Council on Economic Education awarded the Pinecrest team a regional second-place prize in its 2017-18 Stock Market Game.
Pinecrest School’s team, consisting of a sixth-grader and two fifth-graders, competed against 23 other teams with students in grades 4-12.
The Stock Market Game is a statewide online educational program in which students “invest” $100,000 in virtual money in the stock market. Nearly 17,000 students participated in teams and managed simulated investment portfolios. The teams whose portfolios had the best performance are the winners.
“The Stock Market Game is a fun way for students to apply math concepts, practice their research skills, and learn about business, economics, and current events,” says teacher Cindy Mitlo, the team’s sponsor. The parents of Pinecrest’s winning team members are looking forward to getting some expert investment advice.
Pinecrest is currently accepting enrollment applications for the 2018-19 school year. There are also a few spaces available in the school’s summer camp program. Visit the Pinecrest website for more information.
