Pizza restaurant coming to Annandale

Jet’s Pizza is bringing Detroit-style deep-dish pizza to Annandale.

The restaurant is coming to the Annandale Shopping Center at 7026 Columbia Pike. It will open in the H&R Block space, probably in April 2024, says franchise owner Dan Kosztowny.

Detroit-style pizza has a thick crust and is baked in a rectangular pan. Unlike Chicago-style pizza, it has a light, airy crust, it’s loaded with toppings and has caramelized cheese around the edges. Jet’s uses a proprietary steel pan produced solely for the company.

The menu also offers other pizza styles and lots of variations, including buffalo ranch chicken pizza, aloha pizza, veggie pizza, and many more. Other items include salads, deep-dish bread, and calzone-style boats.

Kosztowny owns two Jet’s Pizza franchises in Michigan and is opening one next week at 6 E. Glebe Road in Alexandria near Potomac Yard.

He purchased the rights for 11 Jet’s franchises in Northern Virginia – including Lincolnia – but hasn’t secured specific locations yet.

The first Jet’s Pizza restaurant was founded in 1978 in a Detroit suburb by brothers Eugene and John Jetts. There are now more than 400 franchises across the U.S.

  1. I’m someone who always likes to try the new food trends (I like birria tacos), but haven’t tried Detroit Pizza yet, despite visiting Detroit during the craze. Happy this is opening here, will definitely try it. For those of you who want a solid pizza, try Frank Pepe’s in Alexandria. I only had the one in New Haven CT, which is real New Haven style apizza (Pete’s is not), so I still got to make my way to the one in Alexandria.

  2. Chicago deep dish is not thick crust pizza. It’s a pan with a normal crust with cheese and toppings covered with sauce. Thick crust deep dish is simply lots of bread with normal toppings.

  3. As a transplant from Michigan, I am super excited to hear a Jets pizza is coming to town! Their BLT pizza has a cult following… and still to this day, I occasionally crave it and try to have a slice when I visit Michigan. Very happy they will soon have a DC area location!

  4. Just walked by there today (March 16) and it looks like painting and other renovations are under way.

  5. Thanks for the update Elizabeth, was wondering how far along it was. Seems like several months away still. Garden social, the bier garden planned in EastGate (old Kmart), is finally showing significant progress and the sign is up. Same goes for L&L Hawaiian BBQ. Can’t wait for these businesses to open up.

  6. The pizza and the wings are amazing. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Will definitely go again and send friends there.
