Planning Commission recommends approval of Skyline project

The Fairfax County Planning Commission on July 22 endorsed a proposal to repurpose three office buildings in the Skyline Center in Bailey’s Crossroads to live/work units.
The Board of Supervisors is holding a public hearing on the Skyline project July 28.

Each building would have 240 units that tenants could use for living, working, or both. One of the buildings could be age-restricted. The lower level of each building would have at least 10,000 square feet of amenities, retail, restaurants, personal services, or other uses.
The proposal calls for two enhanced plaza areas between the buildings. Part of the surface parking lot would become open space covered by artificial turf. The project would include 43 workforce dwelling units dispersed throughout the buildings. The developer agreed to proffer approximately $490,000 to the public schools.

The project would be developed by Robert Seldin of Highland Square Holdings in partnership with the Wolff Co. This would be Seldin’s third live/work project, following Mission Lofts on Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads and e-Lofts in Alexandria’s West End.
The project has the support of the Mason District Land Use Committee, Bailey’s Crossroads/Seven Corners Revitalization Corporation, Savoy Park Condominium Association, and the Lake Barcroft Association.
Let's see how the County keeps from turning this into another Section 8 paradise that they seem to dump on Mason. Anyone willing to take a wager?
