Justice High School is getting a new three-story addition.
Work is expected to start in fall 2021, and the new space would be completed in time for the start of the 2023 school year, Sunny Sarna, a civil engineer with Fairfax County Public Schools, told the Mason District Land Use Committee Nov. 27.
The 43,400-square-foot addition would house classrooms and labs, including core classes, special education, world languages, and social studies. All classrooms will have operable windows.
The cafeteria would also be expanded and enhanced with larger windows.
The addition would be located on the existing parking lot and would be near the athletic field and the Barcroft Hills condo.
FCPS is working with the Fairfax County Park Authority on a formal agreement to access additional parking at Justice Park. The school currently has 329 parking spaces, Sarna said, and the plan is to add 40 or 50 more.
Justice High School opened in 1959. The building addition is needed, Sarna said, because the school is overcrowded and there is no room to provide a modular unit.
Community outreach meetings will be conducted in 2021.
