Police action on Lincolnia Road

A man in emotional distress, and possibly armed, is holed up in a home on the 6400 block of Lincolnia Road across the street from Parklawn Elementary School. The area is swarming with police vehicles, including the SWAT team, and Lincolnia Road is closed off for several blocks in either direction.

The Fairfax County Police Department has not identified the man other than to say he is a 34-year-old Hispanic. According to FCPD spokesperon Monica Meeks, he contacted the mental health department in the Merrifield Center and threatened to harm himself, and they called the police at about 1:40 p.m.

A  police officer on the scene said the man has a “high-powered rifle.” According to Meeks that “has not been confirmed,” although a friend of the man said he had seen weapons in the house before. Police do not think anyone else is in the house.’

Update, Sept. 2, 9 p.m.: The man surrendered at about 5 p.m. and was taken into custody via an emergency custody order. There were no injuries., the FCPD reports. He will be evaluated and provided the services he needs.
