Police chase suspects through Seven Corners neighborhood
Officers responded to a report of a man getting out of a car and running through a yard near Castle Road. A preliminary investigation determined that a group of men had attempted to rob another group of men in the parking lot of an apartment complex [Lafayette Park] about a mile away, on the 6100 block of Leesburg Pike.
The victims were playing basketball and had just returned to their car. A second vehicle approached and a man got out of that car, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. The victims did not hand over any cash, and the suspect returned to his car and fled.
The victims followed the suspect and his passengers to the 3000 block of Castle Road where it is alleged the same suspect brandished a handgun at the victims a second time. No shots were fired and no one was injured.
Officers detained several suspects and charges are pending as the investigation continues, the FCPD states. This incident appears to stem from an ongoing feud between individuals who are familiar with one another. Officers recovered a handgun involved in this case, in the woods near the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspects had bailed out of their vehicle and fled by foot on Castle Road, a witness reports. The incident sparked a slew of emails, texts, and Nextdoor messages among Sleepy Hollow Manor residents as they tried to learn why police were combing through their neighborhood with K9s and helicopter surveillance.
One correction: Lafayette Park is a condo complex, not an apartment complex. Scary to think that this happened in my neighborhood.
