Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. suffered minor injuries in a crash Dec. 12 after the unmarked police cruiser he was driving was struck by another vehicle.
The other driver, Christie Edgar, 40, of Centreville, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Roessler had been driving a 2017 Ford Explorer southbound on Lee Highway at about 8:40 p.m. and was stopped at a traffic signal at Stone Road when he was rear-ended by Edgar, who was driving a Nissan SUV. The chief used the police radio in his cruiser to report the crash to police dispatchers.

Roessler was taken to Inova Fair Hospital for evaluation and treatment and was released later that night. He was back at work the following morning.
Edgar was taken to the Adult Detention Center where she was charged with DWI and was released at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 13. A 48-year-old male passenger in Edgar’s SUV was released at the scene.
The Fairfax County Police Department launched an effort earlier this month to crack down on DWI offenses.
