Police go after bad-driving ‘road sharks’
The Fairfax County Police Department’s fourth wave of its Road Shark traffic safety campaign resulted in over 7,000 citations and warnings between Aug. 5 and Aug. 11.
The campaign, carried out in partnership with the Virginia State Police, targets reckless driving and other dangerous behaviors in traffic-heavy areas.
So far in 2024, Road Shark has resulted in over 27,800 citations and warnings. That’s up from about 24,500 in 2023.
A fifth Road Shark wave will begin Oct. 14.
According to the FCPD, “Road Shark is not just about issuing tickets; it is about fostering a safe driving culture.” Officers engage directly with drivers “to emphasize the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of following speed limits.”
Are they also fining for noise violations for cars that have very loud exhaust systems? I hope so. We have to crack down on this or get noise cameras like NYC has. Please!
