The Fairfax County Police Department’s fourth wave of its Road Shark traffic safety campaign resulted in over 7,000 citations and warnings between Aug. 5 and Aug. 11.

The campaign, carried out in partnership with the Virginia State Police, targets reckless driving and other dangerous behaviors in traffic-heavy areas.

So far in 2024, Road Shark has resulted in over 27,800 citations and warnings. That’s up from about 24,500 in 2023.

A fifth Road Shark wave will begin Oct. 14.

According to the FCPD, “Road Shark is not just about issuing tickets; it is about fostering a safe driving culture.” Officers engage directly with drivers “to emphasize the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of following speed limits.”
