Police identify bomb threat suspect

Velasquez [FCPD]

Fairfax County Police Department announced the suspect responsible for a bomb threat at the Starbucks in the Yorktown Shopping Center Nov. 3 is David Velasquez, age 28, of Fairfax.

Velasquez was drunk and passed out inside the Starbucks, at 8104 Arlington Blvd, when an employee woke him and asked him to leave, the FCPD reports. Velasquez refused and said he had a bomb in his backpack that would explode in two minutes. He then went inside the bathroom and refused to come out.

Employees immediately evacuated the business and called 911. The police asked adjoining business to evacuate as a precaution.

Police negotiators attempted to talk to Velasquez for nearly 70 minutes before he finally walked out of the front door and was arrested. Due to his level of intoxication, Velazquez was taken to an area hospital for treatment, then was taken to the Adult Detention Center, where he was held without bond.

He was charged with threats to bomb or damage buildings and being drunk in public. The FPCD Explosive Ordinance Division found the backpack did not contain any hazardous items.

  1. Fun fact – the homeless shelter does not admit people who are intoxicated or under the influence.

I mean, if you’re gonna be a troll, at least give it a little more effort. Right now you are at trump-level effort – just spouting out anything no matter how inconvenient the facts are. I know you can do better.

    1. Oh please then give him a bed in the basement. Bottom line there are too many of these horrible human beings amongst us. You dont have to be trumpian to see that we are being overcome my nuisance crimes in this area by garbage making it bad for the rest of us children of immigrants.

    2. But here's the thing, who died and made you the judge and jury of all beings who live here? I'd say you were one of those horrible human beings.

    3. Excuse me I'm not the one threatening to blow up Starbucks. You need to get you head examined man, or blow ur self up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

    4. Perhaps you may be too overly medidated to see that this person is a potential threat to the civility we expect in this county. If you enjoy this kind of behavior there are plenty of lawless countries that you can emigrate to.

    5. Your behavior is the one I'm worried about, not the drunk guy. People do really stupid things when they are drunk and this one clearly made a series of bad decisions for which I'm certain he'd do differently now that the sober reality of his actions have become clear. You, on the other hand, need help. There are not horrible people everywhere here, most are hard working trying to get by. You see what you want to see to keep your anger at such a level that you would suggest someone blow themselves up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean…why not the Pacific Ocean, or the Caribbean? Why not choose to be happy instead of expressing your vile views about your neighbors? Look in the mirror.

  2. when are these people going to learn? Only rich white devils get to do crimes and get away with it! Everyone else has to be held accountable…a rich white devil could kill 100,000's of innocent people and get a medal for it…the question is when can we send these crackers back to the caves of europe where they belong? They almost destroyed this land which was once upon a time pristine…go back to your own cave and suck on that wolf titty

    1. No sir…the CIA runs the drug trade if you just pulled the dick out your ass for a sec…i'm talking about these crackers who have almost destroyed our beautiful planet…you need to take your ass back to the caves of europe so humanity can be safe

  3. Moron is lucky he didn't get shot or beaten half to death on the spot after threatening to kill a room full of people. To be honest, homeless shelters do let people who very well could be drunk sleep there. If they ask and the person says they're sober, they don't want to get into trouble if the person is just disabled and has messed up slurry speech. As long as they aren't harassing anybody, they can stay. When someone is drunk it generally just brings out a more extreme version of who they really are. If they're a jerk, they become the loud obnoxious drunk. If they're a decent person, they become the happy go lucky funny drunk. Being intoxicated doesn't make one threaten random strangers with a bomb.

  4. When I encouraged the trolling to get better, I was being tongue and cheek… cuz seriously folks, this thing went off the chain.

I've never tried the stuff, but I've heard that weed can help people chill out. Some of you need to try it out. Inhale and everything.

  5. Ellie, who's at the helm today? The crude language in some of these comments wouldn't get a pass on most sites–I'm really disappointed to see it's acceptable here! What's going on?

    1. I second this. This is a community blog and usually people disagree but don't cross that line. It saddens me to see that we cannot disagree without personal attacks and vulgarity. We are all neighbors, can we try acting civil?

    2. I don't expect de facto civility anymore (need I tell anyone why?), but those who can't at least pretend to be respectful shouldn't have their posts approved in the first place.
