Police investigating two robberies in Mason District

Two robberies were reported in
Mason District last weekend, the Fairfax County Police Department reports. Two men entered the check-cashing store in the 7200 block of Maple Place, Annandale, at about 1:28 p.m., Aug. 29, and
demanded money from an employee.

One of the suspects displayed a
handgun. They took cash and property and fled. Both men were described as
black, in their 20s, and between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. The
victim did not require medical attention.
The other robbery occurred on
Aug. 30 in the Culmore area of Bailey’s Crossroads. A pedestrian was walking on
Glen Carlyn Drive near Vista Drive at about 2:15 a.m. when he was approached by
three men. They displayed a handgun,
physically assaulted the victim, took cash and property, and ran away. The
victim did not require medical attention. Two of the suspects were described as
Hispanic and in their 20s to early 30s.

I'm glad no one was seriously hurt. My brother-in-law was shoved to the ground from behind and his wallet was taken last year. He suffered physical injuries, including a broken nose, that were quite painful and slow to heal. Naturally, the emotional damage was intense, too, and perhaps harder to heal.
