Siteki is on paid administrative leave until his Sept. 13 court date. He has been on the police force for two years.
Siteki was responding to a disorderly conduct call at around 10:30 a,m, on Feb. 18 and was driving westbound on Leesburg Pike when he collided with a minivan turning left from Leesburg Pike onto Patrick Henry Drive.
The officer did not have his emergency equipment on and was going 68 miles per hour on a road that was marked 40 mph.
Both Siteki and the 53-year-old man driving the minivan, a Toyota Sienna, were taken to the hospital. The minivan driver had extensive injuries and is still recovering.
The cruiser was equipped with an in-car video system but the video cannot be retrieved due to damage from the crash.
“We take the safety of our officers and members of this community very seriously,” Fairfax County Police Chief Ed Roessler said. “That is why an Internal Affairs investigation was quickly launched to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
