Police report attempted robbery in Bailey’s Crossroads

There was an
attempted robbery on Knollwood Drive, across the street from the Woodrow Wilson
Library in Bailey’s Crossroads, at about 11:06 p.m. on Aug. 17. Two juveniles
approached a man, demanded money, and displayed what appeared to be a gun.

The
victim ran away, and was struck by pellets in the buttocks. One of the juveniles was located and
charged with attempted robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a
felony.
Earlier on the same evening, Osvin Manuel Asencio Cortez, 26, of Falls
Church, was charged with robbery. He had approached a man in the 6000 block of
Belleview Drive, also in the Culmore area of Bailey’s Crossroads, displayed a
knife and demanded money. The victim did not comply and fled. The suspect was located
with assistance from local residents and was arrested.

On Aug. 16, officers responded
to a call about a man looking into the window of a residence in the 3400 block of
Lake Street in the Culmore area at about 11:20 p.m. Officers located the man
exposing himself in public and arrested him. Fredy O. Palma Garcia, 36, of
Falls Church, was charged with indecent exposure.

There was an “assault on law enforcement” incident at about 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 18 in Annandale. Officers
were called to the Woodburn Crisis Center at 3300 Woodburn Road about an aggressive patient who was threatening staff and other patients.
When the officers verbally engaged the patient, he physically assaulted and
spit on them. After a brief struggle, the man was placed in restraints but continued to spit on staff as they attempted to calm him down. He was
taken into custody under an emergency custody order and transferred to a local
hospital for evaluation. No criminal charges were placed against the man.
