Police seek escapee from mental hospital

A patient who escaped out of a window from the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute, located at 3302 Gallows Road, in Falls Church. He “has been known to exhibit
violent behavior,” the Fairfax County Police Department reports;
“please exercise
caution and do not approach him.”

Staff notice Michael Marshall, 33, was
missing from the facility around 6 p.m. on Feb. 29. He could be on foot in the
Annandale and Falls Church area near the mental health center, which is
adjacent to Inova Fairfax Hospital, but also has ties in Centreville and
Sterling.

The FCPD is assisting the Virginia
State Police in searching for Marshall. A detention order has been issued for
his immediate apprehension and return. He had been placed there after assaulting a deputy in Loudoun County and pleading mental illness. This was the fourth time he escaped; the previous times he went to Maryland.

Marshall is described as black, about 5
feet 8 inches tall, 235 pounds, with black hair and glasses. It is not known
what he is wearing. Anyone
with information is urged the police non-emergency number, 703-691-2131. 

The
Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute provides short-term care to adults in
need of acute psychiatric treatment.

UPDATE: Marshall was apprehended in Loudoun County March 3, FCPD reports. He is in custody and the Virginia State Police is handling the case.
