Police seek information on Vanessa Pham murder

Fairfax County Police have issued a flyer seeking information on the murder of Vanessa Pham, age 19, whose body was found in her 2008 Toyota Scion shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in a ditch off Route 50 near the Williams Drive intersection. According to the police she had been stabbed multiple time and was dead before the crash.

Anyone with any information should contact Fairfax County Police Crimesolvers , 703/691-2131. Tips can be left anonymously. The Washington Post reports that police think the killer is a stranger and urges people to be alert.

According to the Washington Post, Pham had graduated last year from James Madison High School in Vienna, where she won a Distinguished Senior Award for “outstanding achievement in fine arts.” She was home for the summer after completing her freshman year at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga., where she was studying fashion design.

Pham, an only child, lived with her mother, grandmother, and other relatives in an apartment just off Annandale Road in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. She went to visit friends in Vienna about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, said her mother, Julie Pham. But they weren’t home, and no one knows how she ended up in a ditch.

Family and friends gathered Tuesday night at Madison High School to remember Vanessa Pham. (The video below is from the Channel 5 Fox News website. A memorial page on Facebook says donations for a memorial service can be sent to:

  1. She coming to visit friends but they weren't home?
How did she come to visit friends without letting them know that she's coming on her way, and why they aren't home? confusing me here. The police said they think killer is a stranger, that sound like she had been kidnap and stabbed to death and no one know how she ended up in the ditch…It seem to me like someone that know her so well have killed her, they scared and ditched her on the high way, everyone will think its only a car accident, a dumb mistake.

  2. I,like thousands of others, were devastated by this tragic story. My heart broke and I wanted to reach out. I saw a Memorial Fund that was established and donors were encouraged to send financial relief there. Being wary of "Memorial Funds" I was so glad to see that someone posted that personal checks made out to Julie Pham would be given to her directly by VATV in Falls Church. I sent a letter of encouragement and a check to that location. Now I read that it has been decided by the creators of the Memorial Fund that all funds received – that exceed the funeral and burial expenses – will be used to set up a scholarship for a deserving student! Wait! What about the $40,000 tuition debt incurred by the mother of the very person for whom the money was intended? So if they collect $100,000 only the $10-12,000 cost of funeral and burial will benfit the Pham family?! The rest goes to the school fund? This is insanity. Every cent should go to the Pham family. I am sure that you will agree that the intentions of the people who gave were to give financial relief to Julie Pham.I am sure that what they are doing is LEGAL but highly deceptive and unethical.

  3. I wish I had been as wise as you. I contributed to the memorial fund, and encouraged others to do so too, not to pay for a scholarship (however noble) but to help a family with tremendous financial need! I hope that's not really the case. The Pham family has already been through enough.

  4. I just viewed a video on Youtube… something with police in the title.

One commenter claimed to have seen a head turning in the back window. I didn't see that. However, I saw a strange white streak blazing from the front drivers side tire. There was no garbage or plastic sacks in the area prior to the car rolling under the cameras.
