Police video highlights speeding, noise complaints in Annandale

2nd Curry at John Marr Drive and Little River Turnpike in Annandale.

A brief video posted on Twitter May 16 by the Fairfax County Police Department addresses the concerns about street racing in Annandale.

In the video, 2nd Lt. James Curry of the FCPD’s Public Affairs Bureau, says, “Today we’re in the Mason District to let the community know we’ve heard your concerns about the increase in speeding and noise complaints here near Little River Turnpike and John Marr Drive.”

“We’re working together with the community and business owners, as well as the traffic safety division, to develop ways to address your concerns,” Curry says.

The video notes that several traffic violations were recently downgraded to secondary offenses, including a loud or defective exhaust system, the requirements for one headlight and one brake light, and objects suspended from the rearview mirror. As a result, these offenses can only be enforced when a primary offense has also occurred.

“Pedestrian traffic safety remains a top priority for our department,” Curry says. He says there are several ways to connect with the police: on Nextdoor.com; your police station’s crime prevention officer ([email protected]), and through social media (https://twitter.com/FairfaxCountyPD; https://www.facebook.com/fairfaxcountyPD/).

  1. Some of us have been around long enough to remember that it is a perfect 1/4 mile from the Jack in the Box (now Popeyes) to the Library (John Mar to Evergreen/Hillbrook).

    1. Looking forward to the next race. Hope they will continue ignoring the underage alcohol consumption.

    2. Fairfax County police have been VERY SLOW to deal with the racing problem and – unimaginative in addressing the problem when prompted to do so even in the face of overwhelming evidence.

    3. This is how you solve a problem when the impotence of County official cannot. Place your garbage bins in the middle of the road filled with nails.

    4. Wait, the cops already solved the street racing problem…they said they planned to put up a sign on John Marr Dr saying reckless driving will not be tolerated.
