Poll workers needed for Election Day
The Fairfax County Office of Elections is recruiting people to work at the polls for the upcoming 2019 elections.
There is a particular need for election officers in the Annandale/Mason District area, as well as poll workers who speak Korean or Vietnamese.
To be an election officer, you must be registered to vote in Virginia, submit an online application, have basic computer skills, be able to fulfill the federal I-9 employment eligibility requirements, and complete a required three-hour training session.
Training begins in September.
Election officers receive a $175 stipend for working a full day on Election Day.
Election officers are expected to arrive at their assigned polling place at 5 a.m. and remain until the polls close at 7 p.m.
The election officer’s main priority is to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the election process. The work involves setting up the voting equipment, hanging signs, preparing the polling room for voting, processing voters throughout the day, assisting with operating the voting equipment, and securing the equipment and closing down the polling place at the end of the day.
