  1. Another hight standing citizen (or not) from another land that needs to be returned to the sender. This crap that keeps finding their way to Annandale, needs to be packaged in a box, put on a plane with a one way ticket, without a return address and deported permanently to their land of origin.

We should not have to continue to be targeted by this junk that we let in this country and then pay for their permanent board in our county jails.

    Return to Sender

  2. The management/owners of Fairmont Gardens are the ones who have the authority (and IMO, the responsibility) to keep tabs on their tenants and make sure that no one's squatting on their property. Why can't they be held accountable?

  3. Excellent point. Let's have Delegate Kaye Kory introduce legislation making property owners criminally responsible whenever one trespasser kills another trespasser on their property.

  4. victim and suspect were homeless men using an unoccupied apartment…..
WHILE LOOKING FOR A "MEADOW" IN PENNYLAND,
    I guess?

  5. Seems like we have two stars in Annandale: Yanez and Assaye. It just keeps getting worse. I think the blog should interview our leadership and the police on what they think about the demise of our district, its causes and what they are going to do about it.

    1. In Mason District it not only seems worse than the rest of Fairfax, it is worse. The Fairfax County Police Department reported that in 2014 homicides were up 25% county wide and Mason District accounted for 60% of the total. Prostitution was up 25% County wide as well. Interesting that sex offenses were down. Does prostitution not count as a "sex offense"? The largest growth in this business involves our high school students. I’m offended.
This report describes “bribery” as in decline. Sure, if you rename 90% of bribery ‘campaign finance’ and take it off the books I guess it could be down, but leave it in and bribery increased by at least 50% nationwide. To anyone paying attention it is rampant in Mason District. If you don’t believe it, just watch the spending by the incumbent in the upcoming Mason District Supervisor’s race.

  6. The fairmont Gardens complex is a complete shithole to live in now. When I first moved to Annandale in 98, it was quiet and kinda sleepy. No I do not live in there, but see it on a regular basis. The main problem is this, and I don't want to sound…..racist…but there is no other way of putting it. The problem is the hispanic community there.
Let me elaborate. This is what happens, there and other places like it. You get one LEGAL immigrant to rent an apartment legitimately. They in turn bring 5, 10, 15 illegal immigrants in so they have a place to sleep at night. It is not uncommon for there to be 15 to 20 people living in these small 2 bedroom apartments. Then, add to that, hispanic men, at least from all of my personal experiences, have a bad habit of constantly consuming large quantities of alcohol. So what you end up with is: Drunk men + confined space = non stop problems.

Secondly, in this case in particular, the apartment was not really…empty per se. The original leasee got ill and moved back to Guatamala/Honduras/El Salvador etc and LET the people squating there live there. That's how they had the keys. The original leasee died not long after going back to his country. Furthermore, the murder suspect is widely known to be constantly drunk and/or on drugs.
A few weeks just prior to this latest incident, someone had a drug overdose in that same apartment. And yet again, that same apartment was also known to house prostitutes prior to that.

All these problems have had two things in common, hispanic men and alcohol.

    1. Have you considered what's more likely the main factor here? Try poverty. You get a mass of desperate people, combine with a lack of responsibility on the part of those who have authority over how the property's used, toss regulations and ordinances out the window, mix with only a relatively small dash of law enforcement (for various reasons),and you've got trouble, REGARDLESS of anyone's heritage or race.

    2. Yup that is exactly what is happening and it is chipping slowly away at our community at an ever consistent increased frequency and no one seems to know how to fix it: not Penny Gross, Saslaw, Kory, FFX police, Zoning, nor any of the alleged candidates running for supervisor.

All we can do is stand by and watch our community falter into the hands of this criminal element.

      Helplessly pissed off.

    3. This has become the new normal for our area.

And no one seems to have clue how to modify this pattern…..and that is unfortunate for the victims, the perpetrators and the tax payers.

Government has failed us, our laws don't matter and are not current enough or enforceable. There is no fining process to hold the landlords or the management companies accountable. If this continues anarchy will take over and we will be no better than the countries that many of these unfortunates come from.

    4. I know on some level that this goes on in the various tenement buildings around the area, but seeing it spelled out is making me shake with anger. How is this allowed to go on? How can our officials be so careless and in denial about what is going on in our community? No, I will not write this off as an incident isolated to an immigrant tenement. I shop at various stores at the Little River Center, and this is happening on their doorstep. Disgusting – both the perpetrators, and our officials.

    5. Re Anon 12:31 "There is no fining process to hold the landlords or the management companies accountable." Actually public nuisance law could be used to fine the owners but in Mason, Lee and Mt Vernon Districts there is no will to use them and even if there were there is no will to prosecute. Our Police department has over 200 unfilled positions so it can only put out fires, we only have 20% of our full complement of Commonwealth Attorneys to prosecute a case so in the vast majority of cases, even if there were enough detectives to put a case together there is no one to prosecute it with much chance of success so most cases are never brought to court and when they are fines are few and far between. Enforcement wise, we have an Emergency Room but no hospital. Our pretend Department of Code Compliance, with the help of our smart assed, black box County Attorneys, have a thousand excuses for not doing their job starting with the guaranteed-to-fail, bone-head complaint driven only system of intake. We can fix it, we just got to stop doing stupid every chance we get. P.S. the Hispanics are people too, just as important as the rest of us. It is bad for us but much worse for them. I’d drink too if I were in their shoes. Remember who the enemy is.

    6. Perhaps Mollie Loeffler can get the Fairfax Police and the County Code Enforcement people to work together. At the last civic meeting at AUMC I attended, there seemed to be a bit of a disconnect between those two deparments.

    7. David Holland, whenever it is brought up in community meetings that the police force and code compliance should be working together, I am told that police are ONLY to be brought in to a housing zoning violation case if there is a violent crime or otherwise dangerous situation.

    1. If I see your boat parked on any street that I drive on, I am calling the non-emergency number and reporting an abandoned trailer.

    2. ^^ lol.

Seriously though, if you hate it so much why not close up shop and leave? Market is good, homes are selling, property values are up…it wouldn't be a bad idea if you honestly don't like it here.

  7. I been living here my whole life this has been happening ever since I was little especially in Fairmont gardens but no one talks because they are scared something can happen to there loved ones I suggest more police apperance the Hispanic community is good theres just a few that are making wrong decision

  8. Why are so many police positions unfilled? Not enough qualified candidates? No money for salaries or does no one want the jobs?

    1. My guess is–and it's just a guess–a little from columns a, b, and c. Perhaps if this shortage were broadcast, someone might TRY to do something about it. IF. MIGHT.
