Prepare now for insurance issues
Del. Kaye Kory submitted the following information on state resources that could prove helpful with Hurricane Irene – or another emergency:
The National Association of Insurance Communication (NAIC) offers a free smartphone app, myHOME Scr.APP.book, that can be used to create a home inventory. The app lets users photograph and capture images, descriptions, bar codes, and serial numbers and stores them electronically for safekeeping. To download myHome for iPhone users, visit the iTunes App Store or search for NAIC in the app store from your iPhone.
Additonal information about the app, as well as a simple home inventory checklist, is available on the NAIC website.
The Virginia Bureau of Insurance offers free consumer guides on “What to Do After an Insured Commercial Property Loss” and “What to Do After an Insured Homeowners Loss.” Both are available from the bureau’s website.
For additional emergency preparedness information, go to the hurricane section on the Ready America website.
