Principal Johnson leaving Sleepy Hollow Elementary School

Eric Johnson is leaving Sleepy Hollow Elementary School, where he has been principal since 2016, to take on a similar role at Cameron Elementary School in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County.
Johnson’s last day at Sleepy Hollow is Feb. 28. The FCPS Region 2 office will schedule a community meeting soon on the process to select a new principal. The plan is to have a new principal named before the end of the school year.
Meanwhile, Maureen Lopez, the assistant principal at Beech Tree Elementary School will serve as acting principal of Sleepy Hollow.
“These past four years have been incredible with the high levels of collaboration and support from all of you” Johnson wrote to families in an email announcing his departure. “We have accomplished and achieved so much, giving our students many opportunities to engage and embrace 21st century learning.”
Among the accomplishments he cites: the Advanced Academics Local Level IV program, a project-based learning initiative, an outdoor classroom, a strong Odyssey of the Mind team, and a Robotics Club.
In 2018, Johnson who named the Region 2 Outstanding New Principal.
