Pro Maxx hosts Change of Heart health event for women

Pro Maxx Fitness is hosting a Change of Heart Weekend Feb.
15-16 to educate women about heart disease and motivate them to adopt a
healthier lifestyle. The event is open to all women; you don’t have to be a gym
member. Pro Maxx is at 7060 Columbia Pike, Annandale, next to Silverado’s.
Change of Heart is a grassroots program presented by  SELF magazine. On Feb. 15, Dr. Keith Chu of Carient Heart & Vascular will speak
about heart disease symptoms, risk factors, and prevention. Heart disease is
the number-one killer of women, yet only one in five American women believes
that heart disease is their greatest health threat.

Also on Saturday,
participants will observe a heart-friendly exercise demonstration and take part
in a fun, aerobic Zumba class.

On Sunday, Lauren
Kornacki, who was featured on major news channels after saving her father’s
life, will speak about the benefits of providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR). People whose lives have been saved with CPR will share their stories, and Fran Carfaro, a
registered nurse and EMT with the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department, will
provide basic CPR instruction.
Register for the Change of Heart Weekend online. For more information, contact Pro Maxx Fitness, 703-
914-9080 or [email protected].
The $20 registration fee includes a $5 donation to the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign, a Zumba class, CPR instruction,
a one-year subscription to Self, a water bottle, and a Go Red dress pin.
“Our Change of Heart
Weekend, held during American Heart Month, is a fun way for us to bring our
members and the community together to educate women about heart disease and
motivate them to take action,” says Pro Maxx Fitness Personal Training Manager
Rachel Martin. It may well save your life.
