Progress being made on Lacey school

Work on the new elementary school on the site of the former Lacey Center is a little behind schedule due to the bad weather, says Joseph Krzywicki, the on-site field construction representative for Fairfax County Public Schools. The construction site is at the end of Crest Drive in the Broyhill Crest neighborhood in Annandale.

About three-quarters of the holes have been dug for the 96 geothermal pipes, and the underground plumbing has been installed. “We’re ready to put the on-grade slab in as soon as the weather breaks,” Krzysicki says. “As soon as the slab is in, we’ll start seeing some real progress.” In about a week or two, depending on the weather, the water line from the school will be connected to the water feed under Brookcrest Place.

Before the school opens—scheduled for fall 2012—big decisions need to be made on the attendance area and whether it serve grades K-5 or K-6. Members of the public are encouraged to review and comment on the options proposed by the Annandale Regional Planning Study Committee.
