Public input sought on new plan for Green Spring Gardens

The Fairfax County Park Authority is seeking public input as it begins a planning process to integrate a newly acquired piece of property into Green Spring Gardens Park.
The public is invited to a meeting Jan. 29, 7 p.m., at Parklawn Elementary School, on the effort to revise the Master Plan for Green Spring. At the meeting, Park Authority staff will provide background information on the park and the planning process, and local residents will have an opportunity to speak and ask questions. People can also submit comments online.

One of the plots had a house that had been demolished. If the land hadn’t been acquired by the county, new houses could have been built there.
“Having this new land gives us an opportunity to look at the whole park,” says Sandy Stallman, manager of the Park Planning Branch. The Master Plan for Green Spring Gardens was last updated in 1992. Adopting a new plan doesn’t mean it will be implemented right away, though; nothing can be done until the funds are available.

How large is this parcel?
Just under 2.5 acres.
I think either a skate park or splash park for kids. Either one would be great for the Mason District.
I hope not. This is my favorite park in Fairfax County because it is purely for enjoying green spaces.
I agree. I love the quiet of Green Spring. I would love to see the new land incorporated with walking paths and ponds which are connected to the existing walking paths. And please keep any trees – it is so peaceful to walk in the woods.
