Public invited to a community forum on Seven Corners Oct. 7
This quiet street is directly behind the Sears site, where a large apartment complex has been proposed. |
Concerned about the future of Seven Corners? The Mason District Council of Community Associations invites all residents to a Community Forum to discuss plans for significant mixed-use redevelopment of Seven Corners, including thousands of new apartments.
The forum is Tuesday, Oct. 7, 7:30 p.m., at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School.
Panelists include John Thillman, co-chair of the Seven Corners Land Use and Transportation Task Force; Martin Faga, chair of a new special committee to consider redevelopment of the Sears site; JoAnne Fiebe, a planner with the Fairfax County Office Of Community Revitalization, Bernie Suchicital, a planner with the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning; Del. Kaye Kory; and school board member Sandy Evans.
Mason Supervisor Penny Gross and a representative from the Virginia Department of Transportation have been invited.
This meeting offers residents an opportunity to learn about the task force plan for revitalizing Seven Corners over the next 30 to 40 years and what it might mean for current residents. The plan calls for a new road system aimed at improving traffic flow, as well as a town center at the Willston Shopping Center, and more than 6,000 new market-rate and low-income housing units.
Unless its Lake Barcroft or Culmore, I do not expect Penny Gross to attend. The rest of the constituency appears to mean little to her.
Exactly. HA! Well, if she was going, she is a complete microphone hog and tends to try to answer questions that aren't even addressed to her. No one wants to hear her shrill voice anyway.
Of course not, but this is Pennyland isn't it? Getting it done "in spite of the majority constituency" Her (Gross's) underlying plan is probably to turn the HD site into 3500 RSU's…complete with covered parking for 500 white vans. May I offer the future descriptive terminology for these continuing negative and invasive actions by the failing supervisor: being "Masonized" or "Grossed" …Place your vote now!
I urge you all to have your communities join the Mason District Council of Community Associations – and get involved.
"Creating a strong sense of place and community through shops selling $12 sandwiches and $8 juice."
I'd be interested in knowing what school the kids living in the 6000 units are going to go to. And would it be a crime to make some of the units high-end? I think this area has done more than its fair share of providing low income housing…
