Public invited to meeting on Medford Drive sidewalk project
Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation are hosting a community meeting next week on a sidewalk project for the east side of Medford Drive between Annandale High School and Davian Drive. The meeting is Oct. 13, 7 p.m., in the Annandale High School cafeteria.
The project, funded with a 2014 Fairfax County transportation bond, calls for 475 linear feet of new sidewalk, curbs, and gutters. The project is currently in the land acquisition phase. Construction is estimated to cost $345,000.
Great! I will go, and I will ask why there are no plans to put a sidewalk on Old Columbia Pike. At all. Medford Drive already has a sidewalk on one side in that section if I am recalling correctly.
What about Braddock road between Lincolnia and LRT? There's no safe way to get from Lincolnia to Pincrest.
Absolutely agree! I have walked that stretch several times as well – it is very unsafe for pedestrians! I would say, though, just by a rough count by sight, that there are more pedestrians along Old Columbia Pike.
+1 for Braddock Rd
I think the idea is to put in a sidewalk that is usable by students so they don't have to walk a blind corner in the street. A sidewalk on Old Columbia Pike and Braddock would be a completely different issue. All are needed in my opinion, but I'm not going to knock one improvement, just because another improvement is also needed else where.
? What "blind corner"? That street hasn't had a sidewalk since the school opened! There are more pressing needs upon which to spend $345K.
Fairfax County is becoming inhospitable to residents that are not children or do not have children.
There are better places to spend bond money and I'd like to know more about how they make these types of decisions.
I have a child at Annandale High School – and I agree with 10:42. There is no pressing need for a sidewalk there.
